Books are chock-full of really good information:

*Are You interested in reading?*

3) Movie recomendations: The Ultimate Gift on DVD -A great look at the cost of selfishness on family and friends.  A must see for your friends too!  A second recomendation is Fireproof: which gives us incredible incite into marriage-whose responsibility is what!!!  This is great for singles also.  By the people who brought us Facing the Giants.

4) Do you like to learn?  We are going to start another seminary level class on Major Bible Themes.  Are you interested in a low-pressure review and discussion on Doctrinal themes?  Sounds scarey? Don't worry, we understand that kind of fear!  Sounds dry?  Not even!   This is a graded or non-graded course, so some of you won't have to sweat going back to school!    The text is available through us for $20.  970-468-8589  We will begin another course in November of 2008. Watch for the start times!

Here's the weekly schedule:

Sunday: Potluck Dinner 7 P.M. Eat, Socialize, hear a Talk (informal, from the Bible with video clips), Plus-- Sing, and Hang out.  Listen to a short, not in your face, talk on a subject that applies to life as we live it today. Super casual-jeans and T-shirt kind of deal. We have a wealth of musical talent here as well. Such artists as: Barry Nease, composer and musician extraordinaire (you have heard his music via the women's gymnastics at the Olympic games!)  Rob Schmidt, worship leader and a local acoustic guitarist is now working for Mountain Ministries. He has a CD to his credit and has taught math, Cross country skiing, downhill skiing, etc.  Every once in awhile we get them all together. Etc. Etc.!!! Eating is great, singing better!

What do you think about these quotes?  Agree, disagree?  Let's talk on a Sunday night-

Biblical prayer is impertinent, persistent, shameless, indecorous.  It is more like haggling in   an outdoor bazaar than the polite monologues of the church.   -Walter Wink

Prayer's like gravel flung at the sky's window, hoping to attract the loved one's attention... -R.S. Thomas

If man is not made for God, why is he only happy in God?  If man is made for God, why is he so opposed to God?   -Blaise Pascal

Abraham & Moses were called the "friend of God."  Phillip Yancy says that "prayer is the currency of that friendship."

Tuesdays: 7:00 P.M. Learn more about a specific book of the Bible or a book which helps us understand how to apply scripture to real life. We are presently in the book of Galatians, having finished Proverbs. The studies are packed with insight and wisdom relating to the  days that followed Jesus living on Earth, and with application to our time! Would you like practical answers to everyday problems utilizing a Biblical point of view? Great suggestions for living the life, avoiding a wrong-placed-focus and helping others understand. We recommend this study highly! There is no previous knowledge needed & you won't be pressed to read, recite or repart!

***We're finished with God Is Closer Than You Think ***

Ever wonder just where He is?

Wednesdays: 7:30 P.M.  Often a Movie night with Personal Bible education in mind.  We have watched Luther (recommended for rental), Bonhoeffer, Israel in Prophecy, Amazing Grace, What About Bob (this deserves discussion!) several secular films, etc.  Call us!  See the Ultimate Gift and a movie that has similar appeal, Saving Sarah Caine--both are fun to watch, well produced and very recommended.

Thursdays: 7P.M.  We offer a small group adventure utilizing DVD curriculum from "Faith's Lessons,"  -with Ray Vander Laan--a look at what Christians believe as evidenced by startling views of the Holy Land!  This is really interesting-these places appear daily in your newscasts!  We view, discuss, and then break into groups of 4 to pray.  Would you like to be included?  Call us, talk to us!

Hey, here's another interesting quote from Michael Ruse, a leading modern evolutionist, who, in the prologue to his new book The Evolution-Creation Struggle, says: "In particular, I argue that in both evolution and creation we have rival religious responses to a crisis of faith-rival stories of origins, rival judgments about the meaning of human life, rival sets of moral dictates, and above all what theologians call rival eschatologies-pictures of the future and of what lies ahead for humankind."   -Evolution a faith based religion?  Well, what do you think of that???  Lets kick that concept around too!

BOOKS to read:

Before you sample this short book list, feast on this little quote from

A.W. Tozer:

"May not the inadequacy of much of our spiritual experience be traced back to our habit of skipping through the corridors of the Kingdom like children in the market place, chattering about everything, but pausing to learn the value of nothing."

Don't skip, pause and try several books by John Ortberg such as: Everybody's Normal Till You Get To Know Them, or The Life You Always Wanted & we just finished If You Want to Walk On Water You've Got To Get Out Of The Boat -It's funny, and practical. It all goes back in the Box is a book for those of us that seem to be attracted (controlled by?) stuff.  Warning: this could change your life!

In Pain?  Phillip Yancy has several wonderful books available such as: Dissappointment With God & Where is God When It Hurts. Max Lucado has written a great book: Just Like Jesus!

Science & philosophy: For those interested in light reading in try Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Yancy and BrandC.S. Lewis is a very well known author for his Chronicles of Narnia...Now try Mere ChristianityPhillip Johnson's 1)Darwin On Trial, 2)Reason in the Balance & 3)The Wedge of Truth are excellent books helping you to understand the evolution controversy.  Josh McDowell's More Than a Carpenter will help you understand some issues about Jesus.

Like TheologyDoug Hamp has just published The Language of Jesus -did Jesus speak Hebrew or Aramaic?

Want to know more about the Christian Faith?  Know What You Believe & Know Why You Believe -both by Paul Little are excellent starter books on the fundamentals of the Christian Faith.  Lee Strobel (Law degree from Yale and a journalist for the Chicago Tribune) writes from a reporter's viewpoint: The Case For Christ & The Case For Faith.  Both present a very thorough, non-fiction quest for truth!  From Chuck Swindoll: So You Want To Be Like Christ?

Do you have doubts on your Journey?

This book might be worth the read!

"The Ragged Edge of Faith"

Anyone interested in  Africa as a teaching and helping destination?   Are we wacko? It could happen!  Bill is headed to Africa on the 9th of October to teach pastors from the local areas.  Pray for willing minds, safety and a good reception.  Peace can happen as God paves the way.

A few of our fellowship are planning another medical trip to Haiti: it will be helpful, practical and prayerful ( some of the medical supplies may be locked up in transit again-pray that they will be delivered on time).
